Editing is an intriguing balance between analytical and creative thinking. I enjoy helping writers tell their story, and I have an instinct for organizing ideas and envisioning the final product while focusing on the details.
Because the impact of scientific research is determined by how well it is communicated, writing is an important tool for a scientist. It is a skill that must be learned. My background in education enables me to provide instructional feedback through a collaborative partnership while helping translate complex information into clear concepts.
The scientific writing styles I am proficient in include American Medical Association (AMA), Council of Science Editors (CSE), and American Psychological Association (APA). I am also proficient in nonscientific styles such as Chicago (CMOS), Associated Press (AP), and Modern Language Association (MLA).
I am a board-certified editor through the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences. Certification involves passing a rigorous examination of skills in substantive scientific editing and related topics.
In addition, I hold a copyediting certificate (UC Berkeley Professional Sequence in Editing) as well as a master’s in teaching, a bachelor’s in English with a minor in journalism, and a California Professional Clear Cross-Cultural Language and Academic Development Multiple Subject teaching credential with supplementary authorization in English language arts.
